CHALLENGE 4
|
This month we're going to try something different: TeamWICK will test out a relatively new and little-publicized app (named Handouts) and report back to the district on its efficacy. This app helps teachers go paperless. You can deliver worksheets, homework and tests to students' iPads, and students complete and submit them from within the app--all without printing a single sheet of paper! Follow the directions provided in each module, please complete the modules in order, and don't hesitate to ask ask questions. Thanks for daring to be beta-testers on this!

PRE-CHALLENGE

If the app has not been installed to your iPad, open the App Store app on your iPad, search for "Handouts," and download it to your iPad. This is the icon that identifies the app:
Visit the Handouts website to get a brief overview of what you can do with this classroom tool.
Be sure to navigate all the tabs under the "See Handouts in Action" heading. Don't miss the information under the "Handouts Features & Benefits" heading, either. (See screenshots below.) Visit the Handouts support page and view the Teacher and Student FAQs. Click on 2-3 FAQs that you feel answer any questions you may have or anticipate having with regard to using this app.
Take this brief quiz about what you learned in Module A.
Create, distribute and grade one Handouts assignment for one of your classes. (NOTE: The free version of Handouts allows for use in only one class, with a maximum amount of 25 students per class.)
Read this teacher's very detailed step-by-step blog post to help walk you through the process of creating, distributing, and grading Handouts. Since you're helping to test this tool for the district, be sure to keep notes, or a journal, on the process of this challenge: What's working? What's not? How did your students react? Did this tool save you time? How much of a learning curve was there? Pros? Cons? What advice would you give to other teachers? Also, be sure to keep notes in electronic form, so that they can be emailed. Take a screenshot of a graded Handouts assignment and email it to me as an attachment. (Here's how to take a screenshot with an iPad.)
Email me your notes/journal/student photos about the whole process. Complete this brief survey about this month's challenge.
